Undergraduate Thesis

For my undergraduate thesis I researched the role of Play in society. Specifically how the basic principals of Play, can be applied to the way we interact, the way we learn, and the way we work. It was from this research that I developed a new design process that incorporated Huizinga's requirements of play. This new process utilized the computer as more than just a presentation tool. Instead it became an integral part of the process, at times being able to create components on its own. The resulting process is one where the computer and the designer play together to create the forms and programmatic models for the buildings.

Programmatically the design is a Video Game Design Institute located in Santa Monica, California. At the institute, designers would be able to pursue what Constant referred to as "Creative Play." Meaning the everyday menial tasks would be minimized, allowing the designers to surround themselves with their work. The ultimate goal would be a live-work environment where the work becomes a form of play.
